12.29.2004 - 11:10 p.m. be a hero the other day chris and i were shuffling down broadway (southie) in the pouring rain, soaking wet and carrying xmas presents. we passed burger king ,where a group of (figurative) punks were walking out alongside a (literal) punk rocker with some pink patches on his jacket. i immediately thought to myself "theres no way that group of kids is gonna let that guy walk out of there without giving him shit." bad omen. a millisecond later, a young thug clocked the punk rock kid in the head. all the girls in the group started screaming for their boy to stop and all the guys started taking cheap shots of their own. i felt awful for the kid but what could i do? im a girl and even though im probably 8 years older than anyone who was dishing out the beating, im still scared of those kids. this is bullshit and i hate it, but im only as brave as i can be. its ridiculous and true, awful and ugly. luckily, i was with my chris, who is exactly like me but a little taller and male. he ran over to the group of punk beaters-- who at that point had their victim on the parking lot ground and were kicking him --and screamed "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" to the group in general. everyone scattered and i helped the scrawny, bloody faced punk rock kid off the ground and told him to come with us. i didnt want him to walk alone. he declined and stumbled across the street toward his friends who were waiting for him. they had seen the whole act and done nothing to stop it. |
